Guild Wars 2 Guide - How to play S/D Thief by Badly Mannered

HOW TO PLAY THIEF. So this is Part 1 of 3 of my guide that hopefully assist those who want to learn S/D or maybe learn something about thief they may not have known before. I know my mic can be noisy, it's the power from my Motherboard that causes the light buzzing. Besides that, it's just me occasionally talking funny, I'm almost fighting an accent lol.

Guild Wars 2 - Soloable Hero Points Guide for getting all your specs unlocked by Fairwhetherfriend

I started this because I've been working slowly on unlocking each and every spec, and remembering which HPs are easy to do on my own was a big hassle. I figured others might be interested in a list like this, too, so... here it is :)

To begin with: my eventual discovery while making this guide was that there just aren't enough non-champion Hero Points in the new maps to be able to take your new 80 from 0 Hero Points to the 250 required for a fully unlocked spec. You can, however, get remarkably close, and can easily fill out the rest with a small handful of two-man champion points or by hitting up Central Tyria for the rest.

EDIT: Yes, I am aware some of you can solo champions. Yes, I am aware some of the champions are comparatively easy to solo. No, I will not add them to the list. This list is made up specifically of HPs that are comprised of vets and regular enemies, communes, or items. There is a list of recommended "easy" champions at the bottom of the list for reference, if anyone still needs the extra 50 points after finishing the soloable list, all specifically listed as ones I believe most players should have an easy time beating in teams of 2 or 3 at the most. I have yet to see one recommended in the comments as soloable that isn't already there.

  • Total number of skill points required to make a full spec: 250
  • Total number of hero point activities required to make full spec: 25
  • These should all be soloable, and require nothing more than basic gliding unless otherwise specified - however, mushrooms and/or updraft gliding are increasingly required for Tangled Depths and Dragon’s Stand, so they’re recommended.

Verdant Brink: 8/11
  • Veteran fight in deep Creeping Crevasse
  • Commune at Wyvern Cliffs (mushrooms make it easier to get to, but shouldn’t be required. Might want someone to at least bait-and-switch the wyverns for this one)
  • Commune at Shrouded Ruins (difficult to access without either mushrooms or updrafts if the zone isn’t at least partially controlled by the Pale Reavers)
  • Deep Nuhoch Wallow Commune south of Wyvern Cliffs (wallows NOT required - you can fall and glide into this one, though you have to WP out if you do that)
  • Abyssal Commune east of Coztic Grounds/north of Hidden Copse
  • Commune inside giant log in the abyss of western Coztic Grounds (poison mastery no longer required)
  • Commune in Canopy east of Noble Ledges (accessible by gliding to the big vine to the south of the peak)
  • Cliffside Commune north of Broken Bluffs (requires updrafts, I think)
Auric Basin: 4/11
  • Toxin-Cure Hog south of Tarnished Treetop
  • Commune in Burnished Quarry (requires Nuhoch Wallows, leyline gliding or a very nice mesmer with one of the above) How to get to this one with basic gliding, from Eraga/Dulfy via /u/vJac (https://youtu.be/EIiHoSL0VUU)
  • Exalted overlook in Tarir (accessible by gliding SE from the northern entrance)
  • Veteran golem fight behind The Falls (requires leyline gliding, lean techniques, or the experimental gun purchased from the Pact NPC in Malchor’s Leap after completing the risen chicken event - see Youtube for an explanation of how to get here) thanks to /u/Watton for pointing out that the way up here with lean techniques was patched out of the game and no longer accessible without leyline gliding :( -- UPDATE: the amazing /u/yukithebum has provided screenshots of a new path to this HP which requires advanced gliding (http://imgur.com/a/EyZFE) and the amazing /u/GimmeYaMoney hs provided screens of a path requiring lean techniques (http://imgur.com/a/63OEc) -- and from /u/vJac, basic gliding only (https://youtu.be/ynVN9p9BeMU)
  • Bonus: Balthazar Commune can be done alone with enough access to stealth - if you can get in and commune without dropping your stealth, you can get this commune if you’re lucky (requires Exalted Markings mastery to access). Appears to have been patched out. Stealth now drops upon entering the room. Thanks to /u/Zergatroid for the update.
Tangled Depths: 3/11 4/11
  • Underwater commune north of Deeproot Sink (accessible by going north along Dragon’s Passage, jumping into the water at the end of the passage and then swimming to it)
  • Ancient Power Core commune in Decayed Hives (accessible by swimming from Rata Novus WP, and requires exalted markings to actually get in - note: not actually IN the Decayed Hive, but rather in the abandoned lab from the story mission)
  • Gilded River commune in Deeproot sink (Requires updraft - starting at the Ogre camp, climb the Great Tree all the way to the top to the Aboreal Overlook POI via the mushrooms. The just glide to the HP - but watch for the sharpshooters. Might want to grab the mastery in the tree and the vista on the eastern cliff while you’re up there).
  • From /u/foxhull - "You can solo the Beetle adventure (the one with all the mushrooms around a commune point) by going there as a beetle. Stealth right up to the commune point using the beetle skill, then burrow. The burrow lasts ~1-2 seconds longer than it takes to commune with the hero point, and you can't be attacked while you're burrowed and channeling. In Tangled Depths, near the Nuhoch waypoint."
Dragon’s Stand: 5/7
Important note: these are ALL only available after a certain point in the meta event. So yes, you will have to finish the meta event to get basically any of these. If you’re having a hard time finding a good map for finishing the meta-event, I recommend keeping an eye on the LFG tool to find taxis into organized maps.
  • Blighting Tower Communes (3 of them)
  • Exalted Pylon Commune in Rooted Copse (Requires bouncing mushroom and updraft gliding. Accessible from Northern Advance camp waypoint, jump down into the hole near the waypoint, run past the bottom of the pylon and continue to the updraft and mushroom that takes you up into Rooted Copse. From there, you can glide down to it) -- EDIT: Video of how to get to this one with gliding only and without having had to finish the meta! Thanks to /u/kaktusimut for the link!
  • Mushroom Grotto Commune in Central Barbed Gate (Guarded by a Champ. Requires bouncing mushrooms. From the waypoint, jump down the set of stone platforms near the hero point - you need to jump down towards the writhing vines and glide back under the platform to reach it)
Total Accessible with limited masteries/skills and doable solo: 20/25 21/25 required

Recommended Additional HPs to complete the rest:
Verdant Brink:
  • Vampire Broodmother is easily accessible at night at a straight glide north from the Matriarch’s Perch and there’s always people doing it after Wyvern Matriarch kill.
  • Security Console can be accessed by running over the big vine from the peak of the Noble Crash site and gliding. Easily completed with two or three people.
Auric Basin
  • Mordrem Flower near Eastwatch requires bouncing mushrooms to access and is otherwise easy to complete with only two people. Actually could be soloed pretty easily with enough DPS (when I did it, it was a race against time, not death).
  • Exalted Seer is beneath Tarir and only accessible if you win the meta-event. There is never a shortage of people down there if you do, though, so you’ll find yourself with plenty of people to help you kill it.
Tangled Depths
  • The Vampire Spider Queen (Guano-Infused Spider eggs), accessed by using the updrafts in Deeproot Sink is easily done with two people. From /u/canhasredditz: "You can easily solo the spider in tangled depths on any class using a ranged weapon and just jumping up and down the small ledge, the spider only has melee so it keeps trying to run around it to get to you."
  • The Zintl Inquisitor west of Teku Nuhoch is easy with two/three people as long as you kill the surrounding spawns first.
  • Mordrem Blossom in Dragon’s Passage is easily accessible (more so with updrafts, but not required). Killing all 3 possible spawns here nets you an achieve. Can be done pretty easily with 2 or 3, and you can encourage others to help with the promise of the achievement :P
Dragon’s Stand
  • Spider’s Nest in Exhumed Delve is an easy-to-access commune, as long as you have either Leyline Gliding or a nice mesmer around.
  • Dragon’s Overlook is a commune in Dragon’s Domain, easily accessible with advanced gliding or a nice mesmer
And of course, don’t forget that you can complete much easier HPs in Central Tyria to collect any number of additional HPs (assuming you don’t have world completion already, but if you do you’d already be finished your spec!)

EDIT: /u/waktivist suggests EotM farming as a good way to gain Hero Points as well. Thanks for the tip :D

Guild Wars 2 - Power Druid Guide for Dungeons & Fractals by Sam Ajesté

Hey guys, here's my first attempt ever at making an actual PvE guide. In this video, I will be covering the Druid build I am currently using for my daily Dungeons & Fractals runs. It's packed with insane damage and party buffing potential.

I strongly believe this could be the meta, at least outside of raids, especially in low level Dungeons and Fractals below scale 60.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask in the comments and I will answer to the best I can.

You can find the written version of this guide here : http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Drui...

Guild Wars 2 Guide - Node farms for small cash in a few minutes by GeeJo

There's a lot of different things to do in Guild Wars, more than enough to eat up anyone's time. That said, I am continually amazed by how large the zergs are that tour the World Bosses, going from one to the next and picking up just a single measly rare and some greens each time. People wait for a solid half hour for Ulgoth the Modniir and the Megadestroyer without even bothering to speed things up by lending a hand with the pre-quests.

By all means, go to the world bosses if you enjoy the fights (Jormag and Tequatl are a lot of fun), or if you need to pick up pieces for a legendary precursor quest. But I quizzed people the last few times I turned up to some of those fights, and a disturbingly large number of them said that they were doing the tours for the money. A yellow and three greens for 20 minutes work is terrible money. Especially when you can't even autoattack and afk while the HP sponge drops down, since so many cause you to drop targets, or put up AEs that'll kill you, or move around, etc. It's to those people that I'd like to point out some more profitable things you could be doing with a few minutes to spare, that aren't as mind-numbing as Silverwastes Chest-farming or as dependent on finding a group as meta-events or dungeons.

Node farms

Yes, it seems kind of silly to log on to an MMORPG just to be a potato farmer, but node farms pop once a day, less than 30 seconds from a waypoint. In literally less than three minutes, you can earn what you would have gotten from the Inquest Golem in twenty.
  • Potatoes (10-15 x 2, selling for 2-3s each). Go slightly south of Loreclaw Waypoint ([&BMcDAAA=]). Also slightly north of Akk Waypoint ([&BEIAAAA=]), jumping up some platforms.
  • Flax (15x seeds, selling for 6-7s. Occasionally a flax fibre or two selling for 15s). This one requires at least the first level of Gliding mastery. Go to Jaka Itzel Waypoint in Verdant Brink, jump off the north side and fall/float to the bottom.
While you're in Verdant Brink, you can also hop across to each of the other waypoints and harvest any nearby flax/mussels/etc. Not always worth it, though.
There is a second Flax farm in Tangled Depths, slightly northwest of the Ogre camp, but it's not always available depending on metaevent progress.
  • Passion Fruits/Flowers (3x flowers, selling at 60s each. 20x fruits, selling at 2s each)
Start at Pearl Islet Waypoint ([&BNUGAAA=]). Work your way north to the next nearest waypoint, swinging east and west to harvest every Passiflora and especially every Blooming Passiflora node. You can only harvest three Blooming nodes per day, but each is guaranteed to give you a Passion Flower selling for 50-70s. If your server is doing particularly well at WvW, you might get a few extra harvests out of the blooms as well.
If you didn't get your three Blooming nodes, quickly check slightly north of Owain's Refuge Waypoint ([&BNgGAAA=]) for two more possible nodes. If you still don't have the third, come back to Pearl Islet waypoint later when the Passiflora have repopped and moved around. They can spawn in other spots, like west of Point Lion, but this is a minimal effort/maximal gain guide.
  • Spinach (10-12, selling for 1-2s). This one's not as good since spinach goes cheaper than potatoes, but it's still less than 30 seconds from Provern Shore waypoint ([&BOQAAAA=], climb up the hills to the northwest), and there tend to be 2-3 soft wood nodes within sight. Since soft wood is currently selling quickly at 4s each, each node is 12-16s.
  • Elder Wood. Go slightly west of Pagga's Waypoint ([&BKYCAAA=]) for a stand of five cypress trees. The area is also typically very dense with other nodes worth picking up, like omnomberries and ghost peppers. There's another stand of cypress slightly west of Waywarde Waypoint ([&BPgCAAA=]), but the waypoint is often contested.
  • Platinum (~10 per node, selling for 3s each). Go to the Old Sledge Waypoint ([&BNQCAAA=]), run north and swing left at the platform where the Inquest Golem spawns. Underwater is a Rich Platinum node. Then go north from Flamefrog Waypoint ([&BMwBAAA=]) and into the cave at the river. Another cave East-North-East of Rustbowl Waypoint ([&BB4CAAA=]) for a third. There are a bunch of other rich nodes, but those three are the fastest.
  • Iron (~10 per node, selling for 3s each). Go through the passage to the northwest of Oldgate Waypoint ([&BF4BAAA=]). Another just south of Gallowfields Waypoint ([&BGMAAAA=]), south of Snowhawk Landing Waypoint ([&BL8AAAA=]), West-North of Demetra Waypoint ([&BKsAAAA=]), etc...there's a lot of Iron around, but each rich node is still worth around 30s. Those ones can be reached in less than 2 minutes, though chances are you'll be stuck in combat at the end.

There are a few other spots you can go to and things to do, but these aren't as profitable or quick as the above.
  • Coarse sand. From XX:40 to XX:00 every hour, there's a dust storm in Dry Top. Go to the Vinebridge waypoint ([&BIYHAAA=]) and head east, then back and forward south and north killing Dust Mites. Every one drops 1-5 Silky Sand, and every 10 sand gives you a chance at a Coarse Sand (as well as Zephyrite Lockpicks, geodes, crests, etc). Back in the first few days after the HoT launch this was crazy good money. These days the price has crashed to a more reasonable 10-12s per (you can get about 10-12 in a single storm), meaning you only get 1g for 20 mins work. Still better than World Bosses, but probably not great once the novelty has worn off.
As an aside, there's another node farm slightly north of the Vinebridge Waypoint in the oasis, with carrots, cactus, and some other junk.
  • Soft Wood. The legendary precursors have caused the price of soft wood to spike hard recently, with each log going for 4-5s. At that price, there are actually some pretty profitable routes around Gendarren Fields, Brisban Wilds, Harathi Hinterlands, etc. that focus specifically on areas with soft wood nodes.
  • Clams/Pearls. Just throwing this one in here for filler, really. Like the spinach node farm above, this isn't tremendously profitable, but it's still quick and you can pick up some soft wood, iron, and herbs along the way. Go to Mrot Boru Waypoint ([&BHUAAAA=]) and swim along the bottom of the river to the north for a bunch of clams and pearls.
  • Some world bosses. Southsun Cove's Karka Queen (Camp Karka Waypoint ([&BNcGAAA=]) among others) in particular is fast, easy, and gives some of the biggest rewards. Even the pre-quests for her are fast and rewarding, and you can always just do the Passion Flower/Fruit farming I mentioned above if you turn up too early. Frozen Maw (near Krennak's Homestead Waypoint at [&BMIDAAA=]) is the only world boss that you actually can sit on a ledge and plink with autoattack while afk to cook dinner and still get Gold, so he gets a mention. Tequatl...Tequatl gives great rewards, but it's a long event, and you have to turn up to Splintered Coast Waypoint ([&BNABAAA=]) 10 minutes early in order to have a hope of getting into a winning map. If you have no shame, you can zone in at the prerequisite ten-minute-early mark and begin touring the zone for gathering nodes. If the map is well-organised enough to win, people will be shouting to the zone about the progress - just teleport back when the second "BACK" is shouted to cap off the event. You lose the smaller dragon chests for low participation, but still get the Exotic one and the main chest on top of the 3-4g you collected from hard wood and platinum.
  • Silverwastes Breach (go to Hidden Depths waypoint at [&BKwHAAA=]), Ogre Wars (go to Ogre Road Waypoint at [&BE8BAAA=]), and the various Orr Bosses (Dwayna, Lyssa, Balthazar, Eye, Arah, etc). These are things to watch out for on the Open World tab of the LFG tool. Each is faster than a world boss (well, some of the Orr events drag on, especially if the zerg wants to farm them), and gives equal or better loot. The Breach (or a "95%" map) in particular gives 3 rares, 5 champ bags, and a Key of Greater Nightmare that can be redeemed for another rare and assorted goodies, for less than 5 minutes work. The biggest thing these events provide, though, is a little variety.
I am not pretending that the above is the best way of making cash in the game. I am also not advocating that you do all of the above in a single sitting, or every day. Change things up, do one batch of nodes for 15m one day, then different ones the next. I'm just saying that it's better than the entry-tier World Boss Zerg that seems to inevitably draw every new player in for a while, in terms of cash. I'd still say that it's worth going to the World Bosses a few times, as they are in general quite fun fights (though cheapened a bit by the sheer size of the zerg).

If the only thing you were after was gold and you had the soul of a robot, non-stop Silverwastes Chest Farming is probably still the most lucrative thing to be doing. It's just that to me, it's so dull that it doesn't seem like playing a game - I'd rather just put in some overtime at work and buy the gold with cash-bought gems. Maybe to you these node farms and spots are similar, or will be after a short while, but I'm still having fun with them as a short semi-daily thing for when I have 15 minutes free but not an hour.

Guild Wars 2 - Tangled Depths Achievement Guide by Versepelles

Here is a hastily thrown together guide for the Tangled Depths Achievements.
It's still a work in progress, and will be discontinued after other community members host more permanent versions, with better quality videos. This guide assumes that you have updraft and bouncing mushrooms; other masteries are noted. Also, check out the Verdant Brink Achievement Guide and Dragon's Stand Achievement Guide as well!

Miscellaneous
Note that some of the Rata Novus achievements may be annoying to complete until the asuran defense systems have been deactivated (part of the meta chain).
  • Archeotech Adept - Talk to this golem north of the Rata Novus waypoint to unlock a collection. The whirling gyro must be obtained first, then the other parts (scattered throughout the area) can be obtained in any order. Video: Whirling Gyroscope. Video: Other parts.
  • Chak Bait - This should come incidentally, although you could farm it by running through the various lanes and chak tunnels.
  • Chak Egg Scambler - Fairly easy. Note that the adventure is unmarked and locked until the SCAR camp chain is about halfway done. See the adventure section below.
  • Champion Chak Hunter - Most of the required Chak heroes spawn during the camp chains.
  • Cloak and Snagger - North of Dragon's Passage, instead of landing on the Hero Point cliff from the updraft, turn around and stealth onto a ledge with multiple mordrem sharpshooters. You can stealth on top of the chest and get the achievement without Gliding 4. Video.
  • Crystallized Cache Seeker - Currently bugged (please report!) Thanks to /u/immortius: Try opening caches in Nuhoch village. These may count.
  • Dive Master: Chak Hive - Easily accesible after Drone Race. Otherwise, there is a jumping puzzle up to it. Video from Drone Race.
  • Gerant Slayer - Part of the defense events.
  • Lore Untangler - Higher up in Rata Novus are some (~8) small holographic instructors. They ask random questions and can be reset by relogging or changing maps, allowing this event to be farmed. See the bottommost section for some questions and answers. Video.
  • Lost Lab Locator - Accessed by an underwater tunnel under Rata Novus, to the north. A hero point is here, so check out Dulfy's guide if you need this achievmeent.
  • Master Mushroom Spelunker - Finish the jumping puzzle in the room with the Mushroom Queen Hero Point. Video (not mine). While standing on the mushrooms, you continually take poison and torment damage, but this can be circumvented by repeatedly jumping. Can also be ported by a mesmer (message me in-game if interested, this week only!)
  • Potoni Masher - At the top of Teku Nuhoch, after the Nuhoch camp chain has finished(?). Requires Nuhoch 5 to start the challenge, although anyone who participates gets the achievement credit.
  • Pulse Room Glider - High above Ley Line Confluence waypoint. Glide using the Ley Lines up to it. Video.
  • Regurgicidal - Kill the Great Skelk Regurgitant west of Teku Nuhoch waypoint. To get to the underground lake, travel down the ramp from the waypoint and follow the passage. The Skelk Regurgitant fight takes place on three island, which you must glide to. Every so often, the Skelk's break bar turns green and you must immediately CC it, or it heals to full. The fight is fun and challenging, as the boss moves between islands, knocks players off, and has a small hoard of adds to aid it. Most enjoyable in a 4-6 person group.
  • Roost Rouster - Some packs of birds take flight when you approach (and other do not- they don't count.) You will most likely complete this incidentally, but this can be farmed as the birds take flight and land fairly quickly, allowing you to scare the same flock rapidly. Flocks appear all over the map; and easy one requires gliding from the cliffs in Ogre Camp. Map.
  • The Longest Glide - Requires Ley Line Gliding. Video.
  • Triple Mordrem Takedown - The hero point north of Dragon's Passage waypoint spawns one of three champions: Sniper, Stalker, or Punisher. To get this achievement, defeat all of them. Unfortunately, the spawn seems to be set for long periods of time (possibly full meta cycles), so try map-hopping or checking back each cycle to get different champions.
Camp Chains
There are four hubs, each with an associated chain. Each hub resets after the King of the Jungle event. Just hop into a lane and follow the train!
  • Friend of the Frogs - Teku Nuhoch.
  • Honorary Ogre - Ogre Camp. Note that the chain jumps from the Ogre Lane back to Ogre Camp at one point, and also that the achievement does not currently list each step (no checklist).
  • Honorary Rata Novan - Rata Novus.
  • SCAR Supporter - SCAR Camp.
Lane Defense Chains
At set intervals, the King of the Jungle event takes place. This is extremely difficult for pug maps to complete currently; look for an experienced guild for this event. All lane events begin at Ley-Line Confluence waypoint, and each defense chain is easy to follow. Here is a timer for the event.
  • Nuhoch Lane Defender
  • Ogre Lane Defender
  • Rata Novus Lane Defender
  • SCAR Lane Defender
Adventures
Check out this video collection by /u/FennecOwO for gold medal runs. Note that most of the adventures are locked until the meta event progresses far enough.
  • Beetle Feast
  • Drone Race - Locked until the end of the SCAR camp chain. Poison Lore makes this very easy.
  • Haywire Punch-o-Matic - Located NW of Ley-Line Confluence waypoint. Requires Exalted 3. Video: Getting there.
  • Ley-Line Run - Does not require ley line gliding! Accessed via bouncing mushroom from the Ogre Lane.
  • Scrap Rifle Field Test - Locked until halfway through the SCAR camp chain. Located NW of the SCAR camp waypoint. Video: Getting there.
Strongboxes
Check out Dulfy's guide for these.
  • Cryptonym
  • Plains of Golghein
  • Shard of Brilliance
  • Sword of Smodur
  • Whitebear's Pride II
Lore Untangler Questions
  • A human mesmer focusing on love and illusions would be most likely to primarily worship Lyssa.
  • Once the human god of death, Dhuum now sits imprisoned in the Hall of Judgement, deep in the underworld.
  • The death of Shiro Tagachi caused the Jade Wind that devastated the southern portion of Cantha.
  • South of the Tarnished Coast, the Ring of Fire Islands was the location of the battle between the mursaat and the Titans.
  • The Norn snow leopard represents Independence, strategy, and laughter in the face of danger.
  • After defeating the Destroyers in battle, Pyre Fierceshot declared that the Charr have no gods.
  • Located to the southwest of the Granite Citadel, Sorrow's furnace was the home of the Iron Forgeman.
  • Duke Barradin was next in line for the throne of Ascalon, but relinquished the crown to King Adelbern.
  • A kurzick champion named Viktor aided in the defeat of Shiro Tagachi.
  • Master of the Margonites, Abaddon was once the human god of secrets.
  • Olaf Olafson is the longest reigning champion of the Norn.
  • Gunnar Poundfist is a well-respected blacksmith among the Norn.
  • The Canthan Ritualists channel the spirits of the dead, summon allies from the void, and were instrumental in the Harvest Ceremeony.

Guild Wars 2 - Tangled Depths Meta Event guide by Furienify.5738

When I first started typing this guide, I was maybe 10 attempts in with no success. Partway through, I was brought in as a lane commander for the LoD/Att/NA attempt that ultimately succeeded in the world first. Even with a full organized guild map, this event was hard. There is no easy, exploitable pub strategy like the circle strat of Dragon’s Stand, and you don’t have the time buffer and general slack window of Tarir. You have 15 minutes or so to kill 4 legendaries - one in each lane - in 3 burn phases, with up to 3 checks for failure (12, counting all lanes) along the way. It is a hard test of DPS and general competence

Modeling after the successful Auric Basin guide by Andazeus.1928, this guide will be laid out in several parts:

  • Map Layout
  • Requirements & Recommendations
  • Preparation Phase
  • Event Phase
    • Global
    • Ogre Lane
    • Hylek (“Nuhoch”) Lane
    • Asura (“Rata” or “Novus”) Lane
    • Charr (“SCAR”) Lane
    • Boss
  • Rewards

Map Layout

Tangled Depths is, as its name implies, a tangled hellhole filled to the brim with mordrem and chak. There are many levels to it, including a few open-air surface sections and a deep underground reservoir of water, but the main focus is the underground portion of the map. At the centre of this, you can find the Ley-Line Confluence, which serves as a hub for most of the meta event. Branching north, northwest, west, and east from the Ley-Line Confluence are various lanes of ley energy, full of the chak that are drawn to such things. SCAR is east; Rata Novus is north; Nuhoch is northwest; Ogre is west. Along the lanes, there are openings to 4 outposts with their own waypoints and event chains.

Requirements & Recommendations

There are no requirements for this fight, but because it is hard as heck, the more of the following you have, the better your chance of success:

  • Ley-Line Confluence waypoint unlocked; as well as waypoints for the 4 lane outposts
  • Nuhoch Mastery 2, to use the wallows at those outposts to speed runback after death
  • Full DPS gear, traits, and consumables
  • One commander tag for each lane
  • 10 people per lane minimum to not fail objectives; ideally 15-20 to kill boss in time
  • Ice Bows slotted on all Elementalists, to help break the boss’s CC bar
  • Flesh Golems slotted on all Necromancers, to help break the boss’s CC bar

Preparation Phase

Each outpost has a chain of events to bring the outpost online and to maximum power. The further along these event chains are, the more defenses are available in the lane to assist in fighting the boss. You want all outpost chains to be finished before you start the event. Unlike Auric Basin, outposts will continue to spawn repeatable dynamic events - these do not have to be done, and will not impact the Meta Event.

Ideally, you want to be in the map 30 minutes before the event starts, because the prep phase is very slim. At the :20 minute mark, you get a 5 minute timer warning the chak gerent is coming. After that timer, another 5m timer begins. Whispers agents will meet at the Ley-Line Confluence, and then split up to the four lanes. If you’re late, that’s a whopping 5 minute window to get everything organized before pubs follow the NPCs like headless chickens.

Don’t be late.

Event Phase

WAYPOINT AND RUN BACK IMMEDIATELY IF YOU DIE. NO TIME CAN BE WASTED REZZING ANYONE.

With that out of the way…

Each of the four lanes has an objective they need to lure out the boss and damage it. If a lane fails its objective, all four lanes immediately fail, and the event concludes. Objectives are the #1 priority, and will be described in each section for the specific lanes.

When the objective phase finishes successfully, the boss emerges from underground and can be damaged. Once this damage phase ends, he burrows underground and moves up the lane, where the combatants will have to repeat their objective phase once again. There are three total burn phases before the boss reaches the cannons you are trying to defend; you must kill it in 3 burns. At the end of each phase, the area you were fighting in fills with poison, stacking a very damaging debuff on you, preventing you from returning to that area. Toxins mastery does not apply against this.

When an objective is finished successfully before the timer, a bonus objective bar appears, filled by doing the same thing as before. Filling this bar unlocks bonus support for the lane, which typically greatly helps on the boss fight. This bar can be filled multiple times. Stack this bar as high as it can go in Phase 1; future phases are much harder.

Now, on to the specific lanes…

Global - Chak Rush
Once during each objective phase, a wave of chak (normals, elites, and veterans) will spawn and rush down the lane to attack the cannons in the Ley-Line Confluence. 5 players per lane with heavy area damage and CC (cripple, chill) are recommended to combat this - Reapers are particularly adept at it.

With each successive phase, the chak rush will happen earlier. It occurs at 1:00 on the first phase, 0:30 on the second, and immediately on transition to the third.

Ogre - West
Objective: Smash chak eggs to lure out the boss.
Bonus: Smash more chak eggs to weaken the boss.

Details: One of the easier lanes, and the only one I haven’t seen in person. Split up among the clusters of eggs and smash them. Eggs will respawn over time, so do not abandon your post.

Hylek (Nuhoch) - Northwest
Objective: Stomp on mushroom nodules to lure out the boss.
Bonus: Stomp more nodules to gain chak allies against the boss.

Details: The hard lane. The one I commanded and am most familiar with. Spread out among the shroom tops and stomp on the nodules found there. Doing so will spawn sporelings and other mushrooms that will try to knock you to your death; blinds and stability help greatly here. Beware: Not only do they hurt and chain CC, but they will also explode on death.

It is highly recommended that you kill the shrooms that spawn on stomp as soon as you’re finished stomping; this seems to make the nodules themselves respawn faster, which will increase your chance of success.

Phase 2 and 3 are very difficult for the Hylek lane. Leave the boss 20 seconds early to get in position for the nodule spawns. Phase 2 has a small ‘cranny’ reached by a second bouncy shroom on the southern (right side, facing towards mid) side where several nodules spawn. Phase 3 has several nodules spawn on a lower ‘ledge’ of shrooms. Do not neglect these little detours; they’re essential to success.

Because of the time-intensive nature of the Hylek lane’s objective, it is highly recommended that its commander establish a 5-man “Chak Team” in the lane before the event begins. When the chak spawn (once per objective phase), this team and only this team will descend to deal with them, while everyone else focuses on stomping nodules.

Also note that the bonus objective for this lane will cause allied chak globbers to appear. They will stack the Goo debuff on the boss like any other player, and when this hits 10 stacks, it turns into a debuff that amplifies incoming damage by 150%. This makes Nuhoch one of the easier lanes for damage despite its technical difficulty.

Asura (Rata/Novus) - North
Objective: Smash open ley energy containers and use the contents to power the nearby golem and lure out the boss.
Bonus: Power the golem up further to unlock additional abilities and damage.

Details: Smash open nearby containers of ley energy (a sort of ‘stand’ with 3 pods attached to it, scattered along the lane) and deliver that energy to the golem. When carrying energy, you can use 1 to throw it at the golem and power it from a distance.

When in a boss phase, kite the boss towards your golem to help it stay on target and deal damage.

Charr (SCAR) - East
Objective: Defend the charr engineers as they man a megathumper to lure out the boss.
Bonus: Continue defense of the charr engineers to amplify the megathumper, pulsing a powerful daze effect that will help break the boss’s defiance bar.

The most straightforward of lanes; pure, 100% combat and defense. As far as I know, healing is not necessary for the NPCs provided you have enough people in the lane.
The SCAR lane bonus appears to be bugged, currently; while it shreds the boss’s defiance meter during its rock fall attack, it will not trigger the Exposed debuff for bonus damage, making it one of the harder lanes for straight DPS.

Boss

The boss is relatively straightforward compared to some of the objectives.

He has an evade and a charge attack that both move him a fair distance. Because of this, all DPS should be facing up the lane (that is, towards the Ley-Line Confluence) to bait him as close to their Phase 2/Phase 3 area as possible, to save time on the transition.

Periodically he will stop and thrash his tail against the ground (which will hurt if you’re behind him), causing small avalanches of rock to fall all over the place. Being hit by this is a heavy amount of damage and a lengthy stun, plus potential knockback; stunbreaks are highly advised, as is being on your feet in general. His breakbar is open during this attack, and he will continue channeling it until his bar is broken.

He will also spawn little pools of pheromones. These look like small, translucent bluish-purple whirlpools on the ground. They’ll kill you in seconds if you stand in them, and the pool will grow in size 3 or 4 times before fading away. These pools, combined with chained avalanche hits, are the main cause of death for pubs.

NOTE that the pheromone pool graphic sometimes bugs; people refer to it as a ‘jelly donut’, but sometimes it hugs more closer to the ground, almost like a mist, and can be very hard to see. If you have issues with seeing pheromones in general, or the bugged ones, I highly recommend you avoid any water puddles in your lane, as they can obscure the pheromones.

Rewards
Assuming all 4 chak gerents are dead, you win and the reward chest will spawn in the Ley-Line Confluence, near the waypoint. This chest has a chance to drop the chak egg items needed to purchase chak weapons at Nuhoch mastery vendors.

Completion of this event will also blow open an alternate entrance to Dragon’s Stand. While this functionally changes nothing on its own, the revealed area has the “Plains of Golghein” Strongbox for loot, an achievement, and mastery point. There are also four crystallized caches in the area; they do not seem to drop any more loot than normal when opened. A merchant is inside for convenience - he does not sell any new items and they are not any cheaper.

Revenants in particular want to finish this event, as it’s necessary for their Mistward Headwrap collection, which will give them the “Mistwarden” title on completion.

Guild Wars 2 Guide - Precursor Crafting \ Spark \ Steps & Cost Breakdown (Crafting Mechanic Spoilers) by Arphelior

Hey all! As I've completed crafting Spark and found that it would be nice to have list of all the required collection items and where they can be obtained, I decided to write a short guide on the crafting process. In this post, you'll be able to find a description and approximate cost of each crafting step and a table of the required items & where these items can be obtained. Naturally, if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to pm me ingame (Arphelior.7013).

Getting Started:

Before one can start with the crafting of Spark, you should ensure that you have at least the Revered Antiquarian mastery, such that you can start working on the first tier of your precursor. Once you've got this mastery, you can speak with Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs and buy Incinerator Vol. 1 for 5 gold and 10,003 Karma to start working on the first collection. While you're here, you should also buy the recipes for Aluminum, Aluminum Bronze, Beryllium Copper, Invar, Lye & Mizin from the fifth tab for a total of 30,030 Karma. By double-clicking on Incinerator Vol. 1, you're now ready to start with the first step in the crafting process.

Tier 1: The Experimental Dagger

For the first tier, you'll need to mine a number of ores, craft a few materials & gather samples from various Dwarf, Asura, Orr, Aetherblade and Dredge related buildings. A full list of all the collection items and how they can be obtained can be found in this table.

Noteworthy for this table, is that you can follow the hyperlinks for each item to see additional information such as the location of permanent ore nodes (credit goes to /u/jetti91), solutions to jumping puzzles and locations of the various structures one needs to interact with. The minimum and maximum cost in this table were found using the current buy and sell price of the TP and this table's rows are sorted based on the order of the ingame collection (reading left to right, top to bottom).

Once you've got each item listed in this table and thus completed the first collection, you'll obtain a Chest of Industry. The contents of this chest are later needed to craft the Experimental Dagger, which is in turn required to complete the second collection.
Total approximate cost of Tier 1: 2.00 - 2.50 gold

Tier 2: The Perfected Dagger

Once you've completed the first tier, you'll need to get the Magister of Legends mastery in order to be able to continue. Once you've got this mastery, you can speak to Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs to buy Incinerator Vol. 2 for a cost of 5 Spirit Shards and 10,003 Karma.

This collection requires you to obtain and craft a large number of items and hand them in to Master Weaponsmith Frayja and Scholar Mossi. The list of all the required items and their required components can be found in this table.

In this table, I've created three cost columns: minimum cost, non-time-gated cost and maximum cost. The minimum cost was found using the listed buy orders while assuming that the player crafts all the time-gated materials themselves. As this would take at least 60 days (you'll need 60 Deldrimor Steel Ingots for this collection), a second column is included that consists of buying the time-gated materials using sell orders instead. The last column depicts the maximum cost of each item; it uses the material selling price on the TP and a minimum amount of crafting. It is, as the name suggests, the maximum one should spend on each item. I should also note that, as this table does not use the GW2 API and is therefore only really valid as a rough cost estimate, I suggest using GW2 Efficiency's crafting calculator to determine the exact cost and to select which materials you craft yourself and which ones you simply buy from the TP.

Once you've completed the second collection, you'll obtain the Tricks and Tips for Advanced Dagger Crafting item. Again, the recipe and item you obtain from this chest will be needed to complete the next and final tier of the crafting mechanic.
Total Approximate Cost of Tier 2: 437 - 655 gold

Tier 3: Spark

To start on the last collection, you'll need to make sure you have the Historian of the Armaments mastery. Once you've got this, you may speak to Grandmaster Craftsman Hobbs to buy Incinerator Vol. 3 for a cost of 5 Spirit Shards and 10,003 Karma.

In this collection, you'll need to complete a number of jumping puzzles, fractals and defeat a few world bosses to get the items needed to complete the collection. The list of required items and how/where they can be found may be seen in the third tab of the aforementioned table.

As a number of items require previously obtained ones, I highly suggest doing them in the order listed in the table, with the exception of rows 3-8 of the table; they can be done in arbitrary order. As you'll need to bring bloodstone dust for quite a few components, it is also advised to simply bring a stack of Bloodstone dust with you along the way.

Total Approximate Cost of Tier 3: 6.00 - 11.00 gold

Crafting Spark:

Once you've completed the third and last collection, you'll get the Essence of Chemistry and recipe needed to craft Spark, which can now be crafted using a Prismatic Lodestone, Spirit of the Spark Experiment, Expertise in Dagger Crafting and a jar of Luminescent Polish (again, I suggest using GW2 Efficiency's crafting calculator to find the current cost; it'll cost you between 32 to 42 gold to craft spark itself).

This brings the total cost for the entire crafting process to approximately 477 to 710 gold.
While I used Spark to craft Incinerator (which I was able to sell on the TP), I haven't tried selling the crafted Spark itself. However, I suspect that it is unbound, just like The Colossus. Especially since it has "Soulbound on Use" in it's description (instead of the "Account Bound on Acquire" both the tier 1 and tier 2 spark have). It would be great if someone could confirm this.

A few words on the crafting process itself: I've really enjoyed the entire crafting mechanic and I believe that ArenaNet has definitely succeeded in making it the Legendary Journey they wanted it to be (the mails sent by Grandmaster Hobbs for one really add something in my opinion). So, if you've always wanted to get a precursor, but don't want to play the MF or straight-up buy it from the TP for potentially more than the cost of crafting it, I recommend you to give the crafting mechanic a try! As mentioned, if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to pm me ingame (Arphelior.7013).
