Guild Wars 2 - The Nightmares Within Achievement Guide

Guide by: Dulfy

Hey everyone, here is an achievement guide I wrote up for this update's Living World achievements. Hopefully this will be handy for those who havn't finished their meta yet (this release is a quick one)
As usual, this is just a quick summary with all the info that I feel are relevant. There are alot more pics and extra info in this guide I wrote up: http://dulfy.net/2013/11/12/gw2-the-nightmares-within-achievement-guide/
Getting through Tower of Nightmares
Tower of Nightmares has 3 levels and to reach the next level you must proceed through the previous level. Once a level is unlocked, you can fast travel to there by talking to the Priory Travel Golem not far from the entrance.
If you are making your way through a level with events active, you must complete the event as they spawn objects that block access.
Here is a map with general directions and locations of the 9 chambers marked.
Meta achievement
  • Complete 10 achievements to finish this meta, which rewards 25 pts. There are exactly 10 achievements in this category but you can also do dallies if you want to skip some.
  • Meta + all 10 achievements grant you 68 AP in total.
Tower Nemesis
  • Kill Aetherblades, Molten Alliance, Toxic Alliance, and Clockwork mobs
  • Super easy achievement that takes no extra effort as you will complete this quickly while doing other achievements
Tower Explorer
  • You must visit the 9 different chambers that are inside the Tower. Only 3 chambers are active (i.e. can be entered) and marked on the ingame map in any given time but I have marked the locations of the 9 chambers in the map above.
  • Each level have 3 chambers but you don't need to enter the chamber for this achievement, just getting near them is sufficient.
Tower of Nightmares Survivor
  • Complete 10 chambers. Unlike Tower Explorer, you can complete the same chambers if you switch map/overflow.
  • If you have already completed Tower Explorer, an easy way to do this achievement is check to see if a map has Chamber 6 (the last chamber on level 2) active since it is right next to the checkpoint for level 3.
  • Other good chambers are those in level 1 since it is easier to get to compared to say level 3 chambers.
The Nightmares Within
  • Complete 15 events inside the tower
  • Since the tower forces you to do events to proceed through a level, you should already have some event completion credits when you make you way from the entrance to the very top of the tower.
  • For addition events you can just hop around the levels and maps to see which ones have events.
Tower top achievements
Rest of the achievements here require you to get to the very top of the tower, which require you to make your way through level 3. Level 3 is quite nasty and very hard to get through as a solo player.
Tower of Nightmares High Diver
  • Video: http://youtu.be/PMWL2ZSP4z0
  • Once you make to the very top of the tower, grab the diving goggles on the platform next to the story instance and dive to the water below.
Tower of Nightmares Diver
  • Video: http://youtu.be/tTt1rKTiYEc
  • Go back to where you were, this time enter the story instance and complete it. Do not exit the instance after defeating Toxic Hybrid. Instead, look at SE side of the room for a portal that will take you to Kessex Hills. There is another pair of goggles outside the portal.
Tower Antitoxin Injector
  • Automatically granted when you complete the story instance.
Toxic Hybrid Slayer
  • You will need to kill the Toxic Hybrid a total of 4 times (i.e. do the instance 4 times) . You only need to kill Toxic Hybrid 3 times for the achievement but this achievement isn't unlocked until you have killed Toxic Hybrid for the first time.
Tower Hybrid Master
  • Like Toxic Hybrid Slayer, achievement is locked until you kill Toxic Hybrid for the first time so you will need to kill him a second time without dying for the achievement.
  • Complete the story instance without any party member dying (getting downed is okay) The description says this achievement is rewarded for not dying to Toxic Hybrid but you actually need to complete the entire instance without dying.
  • Can be done in group or solo. If done in group then everyone must not die.
Tower Treasure Hunter
  • Open the Tri-key chest at the top of the tower 5 times.
  • Two ways to get keys
    • Mobs drops
    • First level of tower drops Mysterious Blue Key
    • Second level of tower drops Mysterious Green key
    • Third level of tower drops Mysterious Pink key
    • Buy them from Marjory’s Helper Dee for 10 Pristine Spore samples and 15 silver per colored key in Kessex Hills camp just west of the Tower. You can only purchase each color key once per account per day.

Guild Wars 2 - Tower of Nightmares Achievement Guide

Guide by: Dulfy

Hey everyone, for those who are having trouble finishing up some of the achievements under Tower of Nightmares, I have wrote a brief guide to it.
You can also find a longer guide with maps/pics here: http://dulfy.net/2013/10/30/gw2-tower-of-nightmares-achievement-guide/
Meta: Tower of Nightmares
  • Doing all of the achievements under Tower of Nightmares only grant you 11/14 so you will need to do 3 days of dallies to complete this meta.
The Nightmare Unveiled
  • You should get this achievement once you complete the solo story instance. Players who are level 25+ will automatically get ported to this story instance when they try to access Kessex Hills
Toxic Krait Historian
Toxic Alliance Slayer
  • Kill 100 kraits of the Toxic Alliance, you can get this while doing the Toxic Offshoot achievements so there is no need to grind this separately.
Toxic Weed Whacker
  • Do 25 events involving the Toxic Offshoots, which appear as orange flower icons on the map in Kessex Hills, Caledon Forest, Metrica Province, Brisban Wildlands, Queensdale, Gendarran Fields, and Eternal Battlegrounds. Most people do this in Kessex Hills since the respawn on these Toxic Offshoots is fairly fast.
Toxic Siege Gardener/Toxic Demolitionist Gardener/Toxic Golem Gardener
  • There are three types of events that can occur near a Toxic Offshoot. You can either get an event to protect the vigil engineers (Siege Gardener), an event use powder kegs to destroy the offshoot (Demolitionist Gardener) or an event to escort a siege golem to the offshoot (Golem Gardener).
  • Which event occurs at a given offshoot is random. Escorting the siege golem events seems to occur a bit less than the other two. You only need to do each type of event 3 times for each achievement.
Toxic Spore Sampler
  • Give Marjory 50 Pristine Toxic Spore samples to complete this achievement, which will also open Marjory up as a merchant.
  • When you have destroyed a toxic offshoot, a toxic seedling spawns where you can gather 3-5 Pristine Toxic Spore samples from it. Alternatively, you can also buy them from the TP (~4 silver each last time I checked)
Toxic Global Gardener
  • Destroy Toxic Offshoots in 5 different maps: Kessex Hills, Caledon Forest, Brisban Wildlands, Queensdale, Gendarran Fields.
Toxic Spore Cleanser
  • Apparently you can get this achievement pretty fast by participating in a Scarlet invasion. Many of the clockwork champions and vets have this buff.
  • Any champion/vet can have a chance to have this buff, not just the ones in Kessex Hills/surrounding zones so Queensdale/Frostgorge Sound champion trains are good.
  • Most of the champions/vets that spawn from the Toxic Offshoots do not have this buff so you will need to grind this achievement separately. What people do is camp the 3 krait champions that spawn separately in Kessex Hills (Overlord Waypoint, Meadow Waypoint, and Auld Red Wharf POI.) People tend to camp near Auld Red Wharf POI as the two other waypoints are contested once the champion spawns so it is easier to tell if a champion spawns near them.
  • Not all of the champions that spawn from these 3 locations have this buff, only killing the ones with this buff counts towards the achievement.
Krait Bane
  • Kill the 3 Krait Witches in Kessex Hills, Timberline Falls, and Caledon Forest
  • Kessex Hills witch is located next to the Lair of the Seawitch POI. To get to her cave, swim towards the tower and once you are at the vista, you will find a tunnel that leads to her cave. She will pop up once [Group event] Stop the Blood Witch occurs. This event is based on a timer.
  • Timberline Falls witch is located on the very top of the krait tower near the vista in Nonmoa Lake. She will spawn once [Group event] Kill the krait witch occurs. This event is also based on a timer.
  • Caledon Forest one is located on the shores of Ventry Bay. Unlike the previous two witches, her group event is based on a timer and have pre-events you must complete to trigger it. Her event is [Group event] Locate and kill the transformed krait witch.
Hope that helps! :D

Guild Wars 2 - Clockwork Chaos Achievement Guide

Hey everyone, I see there is quite a bit of confusion regarding the Clockwork Chaos invasions and the associated achievements so I wrote up a quick guide for those who may find it helpful.
Note that the guide below is purely text based, for a version with pictures please use this one:http://dulfy.net/2013/08/20/gw2-clockwork-chaos-invasions-and-achievements-guide/

Clockwork Chaos Invasions
  • Before you participate in any invasions, make sure you advance Vorpp to the Portal Invasion Closer stage. You will need to head to the Crown pavilion and go through the story instance Closing Ceremony where you get to meet Emissary Vorpp at the end.
  • These invasions occur every hour on the hour (i.e. 3pm, 4pm, 5pm 6 pm etc). You have to keep an eye on the Clockwork Chaos window at the top right corner and head to the indicated map immediately.
  • Overflows will only have the event if they are created within 10 minutes of the invasion starting. This means if you arrive an overflow that was created at for example 3:15, then there won't be an invasion on that overflow until the next hour.
  • An invasion will typically lasts 45 minutes or less. It consists of 3 waves. You will get Aetherblade reinforcements usually after completing the first wave. If you beat the Aetherblades, the Molten Alliance will usually join in after (the order could be switched).
  • At the end of 3 waves, Scarlet will spawn on a random location in the map and can be killed. She has very little health so you will need to race to her and defeat her before she dies to the zerg.
Open world achievements
  • Closing Ceremony Attendee: Go to the Crown pavilion in Divinity’s Reach and complete the story instance.
  • Swift Closer – Close 5 portals within 15 minutes. You will need to head to those crossed swords icons and complete 5 of their events within 15 minutes. This is fairly easy to get with a large zerg.
  • Portal Closer - Close 5 of Scarlet’s portal invasions. There is a good chance you can complete this achievement and Swift Closer at the same time if you are quick enough.
  • Watchwork Nightmare Wrecker – When closing the portals (crossed swords icon), a Champion Twisted Nightmare will sometimes spawn if your zerg is large enough. Defeating him will grant you the achievement.
  • Bane of Invading Captains - When fighting off Aetherblade reinforcements (red fan icon), look for the champion Aetherblade Pirate Captain which can spawn if your zerg is large enough. Killing him will grant you the achievement.
  • Molten Invader Menace - When fighting off Molten Alliance reinforcements (crossed mining picks icon), look for any Molten Alliance champions and defeat it.
  • Indiscriminate Adversary - Killing three differently named champions should grant you this achievement.
  • Friend of Fire and Frost – Stop a full portal invasion in Frostgorge Sound and Fireheart Rise. For full invasions you don’t need to go through all the waves and win, you just have to participate on a map that has an invasion, when the timer (45 minutes) ends you will get credit.
  • Scarlet Scambler - Scarlet usually spawns and can be killed at end of the 3 waves of invasions. Scarlet doesn’t have a lot of HP so you will need to get to her ASAP before she is killed.
  • Worldwide Invasion Responder - Participate in seven full invasions on 7 different maps. For full invasions you don’t need to go through all the waves and win, you just have to participate on a map that has an invasion, when the timer (45 minutes) ends you will get credit.
  • Invasion Canceler - Participate in 13 full invasions on 13 different maps. For full invasions you don’t need to go through all the waves and win, you just have to participate on a map that has an invasion, when the timer (45 minutes) ends you will get credit.
Scarlet Playhouse Achievements
  • You cannot complete these achievements until you unlock Scarlet's Playhouse by advancing Emissary Vorpp's achievements. This will take at least 5 hours or more to unlock as you will need to participate in 5 full scale invasions (although you don't have to win or do any of the events, just have to be there)
  • Defender of the Crown – Achievement gained when you complete the playhouse
  • Raced to the Rescue – Rescue Lord Faren within 3 minutes. You can skip pretty much all of the trash and head straight for Faren to save time.
  • Playhouse Perfectionist – Do not die or get downed during a playthrough of Playhouse.
  • Soft Lander (this achievement is obtained in Crown Pavilion which you unlock again after completing Scarlet's Playhouse, see this video guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V6dXQtXU0U)

Guild Wars 2 - Queen's Jubilee Patch Preview

Below is a summary in point format for rapid consumption.

LIVING WORLD
Hot Air Balloons
  • These hot air balloons will be in all zones except Orr and Southsun Cove. They are designed to be visible from far away but are also marked on the map.
  • There will be quite a few events/achievements here involving escorting the dignitaries to the balloons and stopping the Aetherblade pirates from attacking the balloons.
  • Up the tower are some chests player may find and also taking the balloon is a free ride to DR.
Ignite the Beacons
  • This is a mini activity in DR outside the main attraction. You will find various NPCs marked as torchbearers that you can talk to start this activity.
  • You will need to lit all the beacons from Point A to Point B before the flame on your torch runs out. This isn't very straightforward and you may need to use some shortcuts and a bit of urban parkour.
  • You get a permanent torch as a reward which may come handy in various jumping puzzles etc.
Crown Pavilion
  • Giant arena separated into two layers. Bottom layer is separated into six segments with each segment containing enemies from humanity's past: Ogres, centaurs, bandits, pirates, destroyers, and flame legions (in case you need to go on a Charr killing spree).
  • Each segment is designed for 20-30 players at the same time and you will find many veterans and sometimes a group event (champion) boss.
  • There will usually be two group event bosses up at a time, while they are alive they will apply specific debuffs to the entire zone (i.e. pirate boss will throw rain cannonballs on you from time to time, bandit boss will spawn bombs around corners that you can step on, destroyer boss can make your endurance regen slower)
  • All of the group event bosses have powerful AoEs that are designed to demolish large zergs that clump up.
  • Doing the group events will reward you with Watchwork Sprockets, a new currency for the patch, and Queen's Gauntlet tickets.
Queen's Gauntlet
  • This is a 1vs1 PvE arena activity taking place on the upper layer of Crown Pavilion. There will be six glass domes suspended below a circular track high above the air.
  • Only 1 player can be inside the dome at a time and you will need a Queen's Gauntlet ticket to participate. Some sort of lineups may be expected.
  • There are three tiers of NPCs (4 NPCs per tier) that you can fight in 1vs1 matches. Each have special abilities and the 4th NPC of each tier is usually an end-boss that is slightly more challenging. If you beat the endboss of Tier 3 (only 8% of the testers at Arenanet have done so after several weeks), you will get a minipet modeled after the endboss.
  • There are time limits in each of these matches and if you fail to kill these NPCs within the time limit the floor will open up and you will dropped to your death below so expect to see bodies falling from the sky from time to time.
  • Some examples of boss fights: Quaggan boss that grows in size and damage output the more you hit him, a boss that summon tornado that increase in density with time and causes knockdown, boss with a one shot mechanic that can be only avoided by standing in a black pool that also tick for damage
  • All of the bosses are supposedly beatable with every profession but you may need to change your traits/weapons etc. Some require burst dmg, others require good mobility/cc breaker etc
Gambits
  • If you want to increase the challenge and earn extra rewards/achievements, you can use the gambit system, which also costs Queen's Gauntlet tickets.
  • Gambits are debuffs placed on you that will last for the entire duration of the fight. They range from debuffs that prevent you from dodging, debuffs that make you take increased dmg or deal reduced damage, debuffs that cause knockdown/cripple
  • There is an achievement for putting on 5 gambits on yourself while defeating the third tier boss, which some have deemed it "impossible"
Achievements and Rewards
  • There are two separate achievement tracks for Queen's Jubilee and Queen's Gauntlet
  • Queen's Jubilee achievements involves escorting emissaries, doing events in Crown Pavilion, Beacon of Kryta torch runs, etc. There isn't enough achievements to complete the meta (requires 16 achievements) so you will need to do some Jubilee dallies (details not shown). You get a mini watchknight for the meta reward.
  • Queen's Gauntlet achievements involves beating various tier bosses, beating some bosses in a specific manner (i.e. letting quaggan boss get to 10 stacks of his buff before killing him), and using various gambits. Rewards are given for defeating first tier and third thier endbosses in addition to the meta.
  • The Watchwork Sprockets you earn can be used to purchase recipes for new runes/sigils, and the new Sovereign weapon set.

OTHER FEATURES
Account Wallet
  • Accessed via the Hero menu or from bottom of your inventory. This thing stores karma, coins, gems, laruels, glory, badges of honor, fractal relics, guild commendations, and various dungeon tokens.
  • There is no stack limit so go crazy with it. You will need to login with each character once to get their stuff sent to the account wallet.
Permanent Finishers
  • Also accessed via the Hero panel, you can find event specific finishers here (i.e. snowman, gift from wintersday) as well as the usual rabbit deer, dragon rank finishers. You can pick any finisher you have unlocked and activate it.
  • Temporary finishers will still be rewarded and their usage will replace the permanent finishers for the duration.
  • You can expect to buy some new finishers in the gemstore.
